China Night WebDVD

This is my attempt at turning the China Night DVD I made into a web site. The videos are hosted on YouTube, so you'll need Macromedia Flash in order to view them. There are some minor issues with Internet Explorer and this "WebDVD" that I haven't been able to work out yet. If anyone knows why, feel free to drop me a line. Otherwise, consider it yet another good reason to switch to Firefox. :)

1999 Performance

Despite the logo on this page (an error on my part), the club changed its name in the the Fall 1998 semester to the Chinese Martial Arts Association At Cornell. After the original club members graduated, the remaining members' training was not in arts that generally fell directly under the "Shaolin" tradition. Along with broadening the club's stated focus on Chinese arts in general, we also wanted to narrow its focus a bit, since the original incarnation of the club had instructors from numerous non-Chinese systems (who had also graduated in 1998).

With the success of our 1998 performance, we were given more time in 1999, so we put together 7 segments (two menu screens), and split them into two parts of the show. Noshir opened the performance with a combination of two forms that were taught in our system. I followed up with a Three-Section Staff form that one of my teachers created years ago (prior to that, our training with that weapon was done without any form). Eddie followed up with a funny and exciting broadsword form that he created. Allen and Carlo picked up the pace by beating the heck out of each other, lightening the tone by playing the Mortal Kombat theme song in the background. During the second half of the show, we had three more segments. Allen opened that up with a Northern Praying Mantis form. Eddie followed it with a modified version of the spear form he performed in 1998. Noshir and I closed the performance out with a fight with a broadsword and a spear. We'd learned quite a bit from the previous year's fight, and managed to put this one together in a bit less time, resulting in a more polished fight.
